Having oily skin can be a troublesome skin type to have, however you will be grateful to hear that with the right products and treatments, it can be easily managed, and symptoms can be reduced. So, how do you know if you have oily skin? Oily skin can be identified if an individual possesses “shiny” looking skin, enlarged pores and if you often suffer from break outs. If this sounds like you, keep reading for the best treatments, products and tips for oily skin!
What causes oily skin?
Everybody’s skin produces natural oils to protect and moisturise your skin and hair, however often, the sebaceous gland can produce too much of these oils (sebum) and create that shiny or greasy look and feel to the skin. When too much of these oils are produced, our pores can become enlarged and clogged, which can lead to acne and break outs. Despite oily skin being common, it can affect self-confidence and make it difficult to feel confident in our skin, which everybody deserves to feel.
Despite oily skin being a skin type many people possess, there are ways to prevent, treat and maintain oily skin. Here at Snap Beauty, in Southend, Essex, we have ZO skin health products available in our salon. These products are medical-grade and cannot be bought over the counter or online, without a consultation. If you are a sufferer from oily skin, or any other skin concerns, ZO skin have many products which can treat and improve these struggles.
Here is an example of a skincare routine we would typically suggest for a client suffering with oily skin. We would expect this routine to reduce oil production, as well as improve the overall texture and appearance to the skin.
Example Morning Skincare Routine
- Oil free cleanser (ZO Exfoliating cleanser)
- Exfoliate 1-2 times per week (ZO exfoliating polish)
- Complexion Renewal pads (ZO Skin)
- Hyaluronic acid – an effective hydrator for the skin, without contributing to excess oil production ( Medik8 hydr8 b5)
- Oil free moisturiser (Medik8 Balance moisturiser with glycolic acid activator)
- Sunscreen (ZO skin smart tone SPF 50)
What treatments can help with oily skin?
At Snap Beauty, we offer many skincare treatments, as well as our at-home skincare range by ZO skin. We have a few treatments which we would recommend to individuals who suffer with oily skin, as well as many treatments which are beneficial for other skin concerns, conditions, and skin types. We always offer a FREE consultation before undergoing any treatment to ensure that we are booking you in for the best treatment suited to your skin. However, here are our treatments which we recommend for those who suffer with oily skin!
At Snap Beauty, Southend, we would recommend microneedling for a multitude of skin concerns, but it is especially good for tackling acne scars, and enlarged pores (often caused by oily skin). Microneedling is a great treatment to minimise enlarged pores which are often due to oily skin. When the skins glands produce too many oils, these oils can clog pores and cause them to become enlarged. Microneedling, in Southend, reduces the size of the pores and creates a more even skin tone. For this purpose, for the treatment, we would recommend 3 sessions to achieve the desired results, however during your consultation with us, you will discuss if this should change depending on your skin, and the severity of the enlarged pores/other concerns. Unfortunately, if you have active acne, severe Rosacea, eczema, we will not recommend microneedling – however there are definitely other options available should this be the case!
There are other conditions which mean microneedling is not recommended, such as; Sebaceous Hyperplasia, Cold sores or Shingles, Open wounds, Blood-thinning drugs, Pregnant, Breastfeeding, Diabetes, Keloid Scars, Active skin infections, Psoriasis, Dermatitis, Actinic Keratosis and other non-Melanoma and Melanoma skin cancers.
Another treatment we offer at Snap Beauty, Southend, is the Medik8 Clarity Facial. This facial is ideal for oily skin as it specifically targets oily, blemish prone and problematic skin. Break outs and oily skin go hand in hand, so if you suffer with either of these, the Medik8 Clarity Facial is just for you! During the facial, we use rebalancing products to soothe, calm and generate a clearer complexion for your skin, allowing your impurities and blemishes to breathe whilst deep cleansing the skin, removing any unwanted oils.
Every Medik8 facial at Snap Beauty includes an enzyme peel, a steam, mask, and facial massage, and of course you will come out with skin that feels and looks clearer and refreshed! We also have many other Medik8 facials to offer you at our salon in Southend, Essex for other skin concerns. Be sure to book in for a consultation with us so we can assess your skin and ensure the desired treatment is the most suitable.
