Botox Southend
Botulinum Toxin A (BOTOX®) is a natural protein that blocks muscular contractions and so relaxes the affected muscle. Unlike some cosmetic medical treatments, they’re suitable for virtually anyone who has wrinkles or other skin lines that they want to remove.
Botox relaxes the injected facial muscles, causing them to appear smoother and preventing new wrinkles from forming. They are most effective for expression lines around the eyes and forehead, and the results will typically last for 3-6 months. This is different to dermal fillers, which add volume to the wrinkled area rather than relaxing the muscle beneath. Botox targets the cause, whereas fillers target the effect. Deep wrinkles that are apparent even when the muscle is relaxed are better candidates for fillers than Botox.

How it Works
How does anti-wrinkle treatment work?
Nerve Signal Blockage: Botox prevents the release of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine, which is responsible for transmitting signals from nerves to muscles.
Muscle Relaxation: Without these signals, the treated muscles remain relaxed and cannot contract.
Smoother Skin: When the muscles are relaxed, the skin above them smoothens out, reducing the appearance of dynamic wrinkles (caused by repetitive movements like frowning or squinting).
Is anti-wrinkle treatment painful?
Injections always bring some degree of discomfort, however, Botox anti-wrinkle injections are almost painless and require no surface numbing. The needles used are very small, so you’ll feel just a prick.
What is the treatment suitable for?
As well as cosmetic use, BOTOX® has therapeutic uses such as treatment of overactive sweat glands, headaches and teeth grinding. BOTOX® is an FDA approved drug, it has been used within medicine for over four decades and has no known adverse effects. BOTOX® does not reach any other part of your body other than the part it’s injected into, it is administered in such a way that it only affects your muscles and sweat glands.
Is it safe?
Botox is considered safe when administered by a qualified and trained medical professional. It is one of the most widely used cosmetic treatments worldwide and has been extensively studied and approved for both cosmetic and medical applications by regulatory agencies such as the FDA and MHRA. However, as with any medical procedure, there are potential risks and considerations to be aware of.

Quick answers to questions you may have
Are Botox and Filler the same thing?
Botox and filler are not the same things. Botox or Botulinum Toxin is produced by the bacteria clostridium botulinum. It acts by binding to neuromuscular junctions, preventing the release of acetylcholine. This prevents the muscle from working and weakens the muscle over time. When injected into the face, it can soften and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Most popularly this tends to be in the forehead, frown, crows feet and around the mouth. Other beneficial effects of Botox can include the prevention of migraines, armpit sweating, clenching of the jaw muscles (for people who grind their teeth), as well as reducing the appearance of a “square” jaw making it more feminine and “V” shaped.
Dermal fillers are based on hyaluronic acid which is a substance that occurs naturally in your body. This hyaluronic acid-based substance is injected into the skin to revitalise and add volume to an area. Its effects include plumping the skin and reducing the appearance of fine lines.
How long does botox last for?
Botox lasts on average between 3 and 4 months. There will be clients who experience botox lasting longer than this, whilst there are also clients who will find botox doesn’t last as long as 3 to 4 months. The answer is entirely dependant on the individual, their lifestyle and their medical history.
Who should avoid botox?
Who Should Avoid Botox?
Botox may not be suitable for:
- Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals
- People with neuromuscular disorders (e.g., Myasthenia Gravis)
- Those allergic to any ingredient in Botox
- Individuals with an active infection or inflammation at the injection site.
Please book in a consultation before booking your botox appointment to discuss your medical history.
When is it safe to have another treatment?
You should typically wait 12 to 16 weeks (approximately 3 to 4 months) between Botox treatments. This timeframe allows the effects of the previous treatment to naturally wear off and ensures that your muscles return to their baseline activity level before receiving another injection.
